Thank you for visiting my new Internet site. As a small free-lance up-to-date business, I would very much like the opportunity to tell you a little of what I do and can offer you.
I work as an artist and illustrator, and have fulfilled illustration commissions for publishers such as Lyon, Macmillan, Hodder and Stoughton, Dernier Publishing, Chadwell Publishing, and the Reader's Digest New York.
My commissions have included landscapes, seascapes, portraits of people such as wedding couples, gardeners, farmers, women and children; and pets have included horses, dogs, cats, and even a hamster. You can see some of these if you would like to visit my other website www.studiomo.co.uk.
A recent illustration has been for the cover of a book published at the end of 2011 by Chadwell Publishers. The first edition was published some time ago but it has now been added to with more photographs, information, and the new cover design. Eva Hart was only seven years old when she experienced this traumatic event while travelling with her parents. Her father unfortunately, like so many others, did not survive. Her mother did, but at one time was not in the same boat as Eva, and I have endeavoured to capture possibly the idea of this frightened little girl wrapped in a blanket scanning the water for sight of her father. Eva lived in Essex and devoted her adult life to public service and welfare. In 1974 she was honoured with the MBE for her public and political services. I read the book of course before completing the illustrations for the front and back covers, and feel it has been an honour to have been given the challenging commission.
I am a Professional Associate of the Society for All Artists, and continue to run my own workshops locally.
The workshops are based in Kent and known as the Weald Watercolour Workshops. We now run as a group of artists, organizing sessions of 4 to 10 weeks at a time and with the occasional day out during the summer to a location not too far away.
The sessions and days out are for all abilities. I no longer do structured teaching courses as in the past, but many of the group have been with me a long time and are friendly and willing to give help and advice to anyone starting out, and would appreciate it. I am usually there myself too so it all makes for a friendly productive creative workshop environment, where artists can work on their individual projects with like minded people, and receive comment, ideas and encouragement.
To capture what excites us about our world, what we see, our ideas and imagination, and what gives us that inspiration, is a challenge to us all! We never stop learning.
Thank you for reading my page.
In the meantime, until this website is fully created, if you would like to know more of my work or workshops you can reach me at mail@maureencarter.com
I would be very pleased and delighted to hear from you.
